Corex Honeycomb has been working closely with Gilcrest Manufacturing, a Bristol based composite panel manufacturer, for many years, supplying them with our aluminium honeycomb; amongst the many exciting projects we have been involved in includes floor panels for the British Museum, wall panels for the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London and lids for sunken trampolines.

British Museum

British Museum Corex aluminium honeycomb was used for the floor panels in a new sub-basement walkway. The Gilcrest Manufacturing Team were thrilled to work closely on the project with this prestigious museum. The British Museum welcomes over 6 million visitors a year, from all over the world. Their world-famous collection spans over 2 million years of history and culture, the highlights include the Rosetta Stone, Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies and Samurai armour.

65mm Panel

The British Museum required strong and durable floor panels that could withstand the heavy weight of ancient artefacts and exhibits. The walkways were built over essential piping and electrics, which needed to be accessible, so it was important that the panels were also lightweight and removable. Corex aluminium honeycomb was used inside the panels, which were made with a galvanised steel skin. These panels have an excellent strength to weight ratio which meant the floor panels were strong enough for loads of up to 2 tonnes and light enough to allow service access below the walkway. The museum was very pleased with the results.

Royal Garden Hotel

Royal Garden HotelCorex aluminium honeycomb was used in panels made by Gilcrest Manufacturing to line the corridor on two floors of the building. The Royal Garden Hotel, located in the heart of Kensington, London is a 5-star luxury hotel.

The hotel required a large quantity of corridor panels to be fitted on 2 floors. The panel had to be light-weight and with hidden fixture to allow access behind them; they also had to match the décor of the existing interior. The Gilcrest Manufacturing Team, working with Corex Honeycomb were able to meet the requirements for performance and aesthetics. The aluminium honeycomb panels, with a galvanised steel skin and finished with a white print finish, were CE marked and fire rated with hidden fixtures, giving a flush, clean look throughout the hotel, which blended in well with the existing interior.

Sunken Trampolines

Sunken Trampoline Corex aluminium honeycomb was used by Gilcrest Manufacturing to manufacture several panels used as a lid for a sunken trampoline, which had been installed in a residential garden. Sunken Trampolines is a leading supplier and installer of trampolines that are sunk into gardens, so they are at ground level.

The lid was tailor-made to fit the trampoline, it had to be easy to lift and remove, whilst being durable and strong enough to bare heavy loads, if walked upon. The team designed and supplied six bespoke 50mm aluminium honeycomb panels to form the lightweight lid; the aluminium honeycomb panels were an ideal choice due to their excellent strength to weight ratio. To blend in with the garden these panels were covered with artificial turf. The characteristics of the panels ensured the lid could be easily removed whilst being strong, stable and durable. The client was very pleased with the result.

We look forward to working with Gilcrest Manufacturing on many more interesting projects.
