Encocam, the parent company of Corex Honeycomb was established in 1988 by Mike Ashmead, as a producer of aluminium honeycomb composite sandwich panels. The business expanded into many related areas including energy absorption and safety testing solutions. In order to reduce its reliance on external suppliers, Encocam began manufacturing its own aluminium honeycomb, used primarily in the production of energy absorbers and crash test barriers; Corex Honeycomb was founded and the supply of aluminium honeycomb to external companies began. The origin of the name comes from the core strength of the honeycomb structure made when sheets of aluminium are bonded together and then expanded.

Corex Honeycomb has been a trusted aluminium honeycomb provider to the European rail sector for over 25 years. When used in a bonded composite sandwich panel the high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance provides the perfect application for doors, floors, furniture, galley and sanitary modules (as shown), interior panel partitions and energy absorbers.
